So as you all know by now, Pokemon go has officially swept the nation.

If you are an avid lover of the Pokemon series like I am, I'm sure you are aware of this news.

The media buzz of Pokemon Go has taken over Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook, and even Instagram. As soon as the popular app gained momentum in the tech world, social media jumped in on the fun.

Now if you're like me, you may be asking, "Where did Pokemon Go come from and who are the creators behind the phenomenon?"

Well I have the answers for you!

Pokemon Go was developed by the San Francisco-based software company Niantic Labs. The CEO and founder of Niantic is John Hanke, who received his MBA from UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business in 1996.

John Hanke was an engineer who became the vice president of product management for Geo, the Google team responsible for maps and street views. This background experience and technology has a lot to do with the creation of Pokemon Go.

In the free downloadable app which uses GPS and virtual reality technology, you catch Pokemon by exploring real-world locations. According to Shack News, wild Pokemon will roam different real world locations like parks, streets, or landmarks. Different Pokemon types appear in different locations. Users toss poke balls to catch Pokemon and use them to battle real-world players. As in the traditional series of Pokemon, users can also trade Pokemon with other players.

Sounds pretty cool right? Virtual reality Pokemon- wish I had that growing up!

Now lets talk statistics.

According to NBC Bay Area, Pokemon Go has almost 26 million U.S. gamers in just 2 weeks!

Pokemon Go is a collaboration between Niantic Labs, The Pokemon Company, and Nintendo. According to Fortune Magazine, the game has added $7.5 billion to Nintendo's market value in just 2 days.

The game has launched in The U.S., Australia, and New Zealand, and is due to launch soon in Japan.

The future of Pokemon Go could include console gaming and integration with future installments of the Nintendo 3DS Pokemon series.

This game has taken the market by storm and I'm excited to see whats next from the creators.

Gotta catch 'em all!
