Depression is a real thing. It's a battle that many of us are fighting. But we cannot give up. Is that possible? Can we push through the fog that is enveloping us? I believe we can.

A good friend of mine recently posted this on Facebook:

When I saw it I couldn't just keep scrolling and let it pass. I had to do something. I am the same way sometimes. I think a lot of us are. We talked for a bit and came to a silent conclusion that we would keep going for each-others sakes. And for the sakes of those around us.

People need us. They do. What an incredible story our lives will be when we make it. One day, we will be telling those around us of our journey through the depths of depression. We are going to tell them that we survived and that we pressed forward. It may not be in this life, but I know that day will come. We will be healed. We just have to keep going.

So how do we keep going? Let me share with you 3 things that are working for me.

   1) Believe you can do it. Because you can. Tell yourself 3 great things each day when you wake up and again before you go back to bed. Now, don't tell me that there is nothing great about you. Because that is another lie. No more lies! Remember? Think. See that smile? That is great. See how you got out of bed today? That is great. YOU are great and YOU are loved. Look yourself in the mirror. In the eyes! What do you see? No, not a sad, depressed person. You see a strong willed person who WILL get better. You just have to try.

2) No more lies. Whenever bad thoughts come to me I try force them out. Tell them that they lies. Because they are. It is so hard. It is much easier to let them in. But then they take over. So don't let those lies in. Get out of your head. Go talk to someone. Because guess what? That person actually does want to hear from you and they actually do care about you. It's just those stinkin' lies that are telling us we are not good enough. We are good enough. YOU are good enough.

3) Try to be happy. Just try. Well, that sounds stupid. But it works. When you wake up in the morning and think of how today will be, as you feel that thick fog wrapping around your heart, just try. Put a smile on your face and get out of bed. Go exercise. Go do something. But do not--I repeat DO NOT--lay back down and wallow. You may not do that. It will not heal you. It will make you worse.

So please don't give up. You are loved. By your family. By your friends. By your Heavenly Father and your Savior Jesus Christ. One of my favorite scriptures says: "But that ye have patience, and bear with those afflictions with a FIRM HOPE that ye shall one day rest from all your afflictions" (Alma 34:41, in the Book of Mormon).
That's it. A firm hope. You are loved. Please don't give up.🌻
