How to Overcome Fear
Fear is an interesting topic and is still studied by many. Me included. Learning how to overcome fear and push forward isn't simple. But this article that I’ll be sharing with you all today will help. There are four steps to complete. But even with these steps done, fear will never leave you. For fear is a foe that will continue to return. But mastering over it can help in so many ways.
One thing is certain about fear though. It’s very difficult to explain and it can come in many different ways. There is no one way fixes all when it comes to fear. However, information helps. Which is the purpose of this blog. So let’s dig deeper into the four step process of overcoming fear!
Confront your fears head on to reduce their power.
The first step of fear is admitting that you do have one. Some times it’s blatant, some times not so much. Either way identifying it is important and then taking action. Confronting your fears head on will reduce the power it has on you. After all fear makes us reluctant and hesitant. Some times even puts us in a stasis.
Facing your fears means you’re not as afraid of this and you can approach it boldly. This in turn will be a foundation for confidence. Not only that but there’ll be a sense of clarity, you’ll be able to think a little more.
Imagine dealing with the fear to make it less daunting.
Being able to think with a level head feeds into this, imagining how to deal with the fear. By picturing yourself dealing with the fear it’s emboldening. Not only that but it also can encourage you to find multiple solutions to the fear. By having options you’re more confident in what you can do. Not only that but this way of thinking can also help you solve other problems in your life.
Remember that fear is just excitement in disguise.
This was something that took me a little while to understand. I still haven’t come to terms with it, however I can grasp some meaning to it. I associate it to something along the lines of moving forward. Some things you really don’t want to do, but once you get into it you start to enjoy it. This is the same principal.
Fear imposes a challenge at all times and in a sense that is exciting in of itself. Having a tough opponent who knows you well can be thrilling. At the same time it can be overwhelming. It’s the potentiality that your opponent can overwhelm you is the troubling part for me. But what’s important to remember is we are not perfect, and there will be some losses.
Use fear to spawn the energy you need to perform well.
This is the last step. And it's not an easy step either. There are no guarantees of success. But practicing this will give you a chance and that’s far better than none at all. Above I said I had a fear of losing, or it makes me hesitant. Instead of worrying about that, I need to focus on turning that energy into something else.
Better yet turn that energy that will help me drive the passion to create and inspire. It is something that I enjoy doing and as a result it has helped me. It’s provided a solid foundation for me to grow. For me to thrive and work harder.
