a personal spiritual journey

Often times, our friends seemingly desert us when we need them most. Packing my whole life into the back of a pickup truck , a new life awaited. It had been a tough week-end and I actually looked forward to returning to work on Monday, at least I would see some smiling faces.

A group of us always met for coffee before beginning our day. We would clock in, pick up our package car loaded with parcels and much to the dismay of management,(who thought we should begin immediately,) make a short stop for coffee, we needed to catch up on the latest scuttlebutt.

I was really looking forward to seeing everyone this morning, I needed to see some smiling faces. I was the first one at the restaurant and much to my surprise, as I waited for everyone to stop, they all drove on by, and never even looked my way.

What!! When I need someone the most, they aren’t there for me.

There were extenuating circumstances why everyone didn’t stop, but on a spiritual level, I needed to learn that we can really depend on no one but ourselves and our God. When the chips are down, that’s all we have.

Things improved a lot that evening after I returned home for the day, my whole family showed up. When everyone one else deserts you, your family is still there. Even today, in spite of the fact we don’t see each other as often as I would like, I know we are there for each other.
