Jeremiah 24  A Time to Reflect

With Jeremiah’s words ringing in Daniel's ears,  as it was prophesied, so it happened: King Jehoiakim “will be left unburied just like a dead donkey.” Jehoiakim’s son, Jehoiachin will assume the throne for 3 months/ 10 days; be captured by King Nebuchadnezzar and transported to a jail cell where he will live for 31 yrs. When life unravels there will be 2 camps of people: those, like Daniel,  who see this as God’s opportunity to glorify Him or those who “knew God but did not glorify God.”[Rom 1] God calls them his bad figs who led his people astray.

Paul rightly reminded us that right now we only see part of the story before us but one day we will see and understand the whole drama and its reasons. But we have the words of Jeremiah,Daniel along with the Babylonian Chronicles to piece together the time map see that These things happened as examples for us so that we will not crave evil things as they did." [1Co 10:6]

The time for tears is over; the time for reflection is now.  “Without reflection, we go blindly on our way, creating more unintended consequences, and failing to achieve anything useful.” ~Margaret J. Wheatley.

How do you view your present circumstances? Do you see them as God’s loving protection? Do you hear God saying: “you are MY good fig?”  Can you see His purpose is to refine you and make you pure? Do you hear God saying “My ways are not your ways?” [Is 55] Do you hear God saying “I will look after you, restore you, build you up; plant you firmly?” OR do you whine and complain and forget His lovingkindness never fails for He is a Covenant Keeping God?
