Moses Teaches Discipleship 101

Jesus told us to go and make disciples and as we are going to share our story. Our stories are about our victories as well as our hardships and may bring varying responses. Some might scoff; others might say wow, that is interesting, but drop it there. BUT, some may listen intently and make an eternal decision. The Holy Spirit moves and prepares the hearts of men. It is up to us to share what God has done.  Take a lesson from the life of Moses and see what happens as a result.

In Exodus 18, “Moses told his father-in-law all that the Lord had done to Pharaoh and to Egypt for Israel’s sakeand all the hardship that had come on them along the wayand how the Lord had delivered them.I hope you grabbed that Moses left nothing out. He told the good and the bad. But, no matter what had transpired, Moses gave glory to God. That is a key element as we witness to people on the street, at the checkout line and to our neighbors. So many times we feel like we have to gloss over or leave out the bad and just tell the sunshine and roses part. Unfortunately, real life is so unlike that!

Now for the result: “Jethro rejoiced and blessed the Lord. But, it was when he said…”Now I know that the Lord is greater than all the gods,” that we get a glimpse of where he was spiritually and where he wants to be. Remember this, you never know where another person's heart is until you share the reality of your spiritual walk with God. It just might be that your story – not someone else’s—is the key to unlocking their heart towards God.

Real life has the ups and the downs. DON'T paint a false picture of what it means to be a Christian! But DO go and tell your story and leave the results to God.
