Juliet Young and her mother revived the lost art of letter writing. When Juliet's mother was on assignment as a globe-trotting photojournalist, letters were the only thing that helped ease the pain of separation. After the death of her mother, Juliet finds the only way she can cope is by leaving letters at her mother's grave. When Declan Murphy comes across one of Juliet's letter whilst cleaning the cemetery as part of his court ordered community service, he can't resist reading it or writing back to it. Soon Juliet and Declan are opening up to each other, complete strangers, or so they think. Neither Declan or Juliet know that they are actually classmates. As sparks fly on paper, sparks also start to fly between the pair at school. As they get closer to discovering each others identities, will the truths they uncover ultimately tear them apart?
I absolutely adored this book.
I was hooked from the very first page. Swapping between letters and emails to each characters point of view kept the story really grounded and emotional.
I found Brigid Kemmerer's writing to be deeply emotive. I could feel the sadness, anger and longing radiating off the pages.
The characters of Juliet and Declan where so heartbreaking that I was glad for the ensemble characters that helped bring some lightness to the story. I would have loved some more information on Rev. His character was so intriguing and I feel like we only got to scratch the surface with him. Maybe that's another story, one I would definatly read.
I loved getting to be apart of the building of this beautifully strong connection that developed between Juliet and Declan.
I honestly can't speak highly enough of this book.
If you are looking for a book that will pull on your heartstrings yet leave you feeling hopeful, Letters To The Lost by Brigid Kemmerer is the book for you.
