'Sixteen-year-old Bri wants to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. Or at least make it out of her neighborhood one day. As the daughter of an underground rap legend who died before he hit big, Bri’s got big shoes to fill. But now that her mom has unexpectedly lost her job, food banks and shutoff notices are as much a part of Bri’s life as beats and rhymes. With bills piling up and homelessness staring her family down, Bri no longer just wants to make it—she has to make it.'

This book was great.

This book has been on my TBR for a long time, as I was worried about whether it could live up to its predecessor. It turns out I had nothing to worry about. Not only did live up to my expectations, it surpassed them.

I loved how this book played homage to hip-hop and used it as a basis for both positive and negative experiences. This amazing story is about following your dreams and not becoming what people expect you to be.

Angie Thomas did a fantastic job in creating believable and flawed characters in this book. Each character had a different take on their situation and what is the best way to become who you want to be while struggling with the realities of everyday life.

It was wonderful to see these characters grow and evolve as the story unfolded. Seeing these amazing characters stand up for injustice, follow their dreams and spark their various passions made for a truly immersive reading experience.

I am so glad that I finally read this book. I am now looking forward to seeing what Angie Thomas comes out with next.

On The Come Up by Angie Thomas is the perfect follow up to The Hate U Give and a must read for everyone.
