'Geralt of Rivia is a witcher. A cunning sorcerer. A merciless assassin. And a cold-blooded killer. His sole purpose: to destroy the monsters that plague the world. But not everything monstrous-looking is evil and not everything fair is good... and in every fairy tale there is a grain of truth.'

I loved this book.

The Last Wish is a collection of short stories introducing Geralt of Rivia. The collection contains short stories interspersed with a continuing frame story. After having been injured in battle, Geralt of Rivia, rests in a temple. During that time he has flashbacks to recent events in his life, with each flashback forming one of the following short stories.'

            • "The Voice of Reason"
            • "The Witcher"
            • "A Grain of Truth"
            • "The Lesser Evil"
            • "A Question of Price"
            • "The Edge of the World"
            • "The Last Wish"

I have decided to read this series chronologically. So even though The Last Wish was published after The Sword of Destiny, the stories it contains take place before the first book in the series.

Reading this collection of short stories before starting the series has really excited me for the series itself. I have had the chance to get accustomed to the writing, I am now familiar with the world and I have been introduced to many of the characters I am likely to come across in the series.

I really loved the way in which the stories were woven together with a continuing story. It helped to explain why each story was present in the collection and why they were so varied in both times and places.

I have been looking forward to reading this series for a while and so far I think I am going to enjoy it. If this collection is anything to go by, this series is going to be right up my alley. Now I am excited to get stuck into the rest of the book.

The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski is the perfect way to kick off a reading experience.
