Disneyland Planning to Build A New Luxury Hotel

Thanks to the Orange County Register, we now know that Disneyland has submitted plans for a tax credit to build a new 700 room luxury hotel at the Disneyland Resort. This new hotel would be the fourth hotel at the resort. In order to qualify for the city of Anaheim tax credit, the hotel would have to meet the qualifications for a AAA Four Diamond rating. Two of the Disneyland Resort hotels, the Disneyland Hotel and the Grand Californian are AAA Four Diamond rated hotels. The third hotel, Paradise Pier, is a AAA Three Diamond Hotel. The three hotels have varying rates, but given the similar ratings to that of the Disneyland Hotel and Grand California, the new hotel will likely have similar rates to those hotels. So, depending on the room, rates could easily be $500-$600 a night for a standard room.

The plans are calling for the hotel and a new parking structure to be built in the current Downtown Disney parking lot. Given the location of the new hotel, it might be interesting to see if Disney creates a special entrance into Disneyland much like the Grand Californian has for California Adventure. This hotel might also be a big draw as it could very well have great views of the new Star Wars land which is currently in the construction phase. Star Wars land will likely open well before the new hotel, but Star Wars and Star Wars land will still be a huge market and there are plenty of Star Wars fans who would be willing to shell out big bucks for the amazing view.

The new luxury hotel does not have a theme yet, and Walt Disney Imagineering has been tasked with creating a theme for the new hotel which will also include a new rooftop restaurant. The theme of the new hotel will likely be a hot topic until an official announcement is made by Disney. It is an interesting time at the Resort right now due to budget cuts, so Disney may wait a while to officially announce the hotel. Regardless, expect this new hotel to be a major part of any news coming out of Disneyland for the foreseeable future.
