Each of these objectives necessitates its own set of spacing calculations, lighting packages, and possibly installation procedures. How you go will be determined by what you require from your lighting, so take a moment to consider your goals.

Make a Floor Plan

Take your room's measurements and draw the approximate dimensions of the space on grid paper. Mark the locations of items like workplaces, counters, shelves, furniture, and any wall hangings or other artwork with markers.

Make the main point of the room the starting point for your recessed lighting design. From there, expand outward. Start your lighting strategy from the center of the space if there isn't a distinct focal point. 

Follow The Rule Of Thumb for Ceiling Height

Divide the ceiling height by two to estimate how far apart your recessed lights should be placed. For example, if a room has an eight-foot ceiling, recessed lights should be spaced about 4 feet apart. And if your ceiling height is ten feet, you should leave around 5 feet between each light fixture.

However, use this rule as a guideline. So you can distance the recessed lights closer together or further apart, depending on the brightness or darkness of the room's decor, the type and wattage of light being used, and the function of the LED recessed lights.

Avoid Creating Shadowy Corners



When planning the placement of your recessed lighting, take extra precautions to ensure that your design does not result in shadowy areas. For example, poorly lighted corners might make your ceiling appear lower, reducing the openness of the space. 

To avoid any gloomy or shadowy corners, ensure the lights are at an adequate distance from the walls.
