Painting with pastel colors requires a specific technique that is different from other painting methods. The technique of painting varies from medium to medium. With acrylic colors, your approach to paint will be different as from pastel colors. 1. Select a composition

5. Blending the pastel colors
After you are done putting different colors to your painting its time to blend the color using fingertips or cotton ball. Blending of colors can be done right to left, left to right, horizontally or vertically as per the need of painting style.
6. Adding minor details
For example, if you are creating pastel wall art, you need to add waves at the front and back of the boat. These waves can be added after blending the colors to give a 3-D effect of the waves in the painting. You can use turquoise and white color in conjunction to give an illusion of froth in the water.
7. Finishing the detailing
Give a finishing touch to your painting using a black pen or a black marker by adding a few effects to your masterpiece.
8. Final touches
The last stage of a pastel painting is to add a few final touches to it. Use an intensely dark or light color for giving the final details in the painting. After checking and finishing each and every detail of the painting, spray fixative on it to prevent it from being damaged. Pastel color blends easily so fixative is used to avoid any further damage to the painting.
