Week 6 kicks off with an AFC West battle as the San Diego Chargers host the Denver Broncos. Let's go through the starters and see if we can find the right guys to start and the right guys to sit.
Trevor Siemian returns as the starting quarterback after a week off because of an injury. Siemian had his best game of his short career in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals. I'm not sure if there will be any rust here or if the Broncos will be conservative with the game plan, but I have Siemian as a SIT tonight.
Depending on the set up of your league I think that you can START Philip Rivers tonight. Being a veteran should help Rivers against one of the best defenses in the NFL. I'm not expecting a 400 yard passing night out of Rivers, but I think he'll get you enough numbers to use tonight.
C.J. Anderson isn't averaging a lot of yards per carry, but he's getting the carries. As long as the Broncos are giving Anderson the football in the ground game he's a good guy to have. I'd START Anderson tonight with the hopes that he'll put one in the end zone in this game.
Melvin Gordon has made a huge comeback from a down rookie season. He's found his way into the end zone 6 times this season. This is the toughest defense Gordon will face, but with the way he's been playing I think that you have to START him tonight and take your chances.
Demaryius Thomas is still the deep threat in this offense, but remember he had to ask for the football to be thrown deep. I can see this being a tough call for fantasy owners because of Thomas's draft position. Even with that I think I'm going to SIT Thomas tonight.
Emmanuel Sanders is the Broncos receiver I think you should START tonight. Sanders is the team leaders in receptions and seems to have a better relationship with Siemian than Thomas does. Sanders seems to be the guy Siemian looks for and that can equal catches for you.
Travis Benjamin is taken over as the Chargers #1 receiver with Keenan Allen being out for the season, but I'm not sure it's a role he fits into. Benjamin is the guy Denver's defense will look to stop and with that in mind I think I'm going to SIT him tonight.
Tyrell Williams averages 17 yards a reception; so if he gets some catches he could put up some big yardage. I'm not old even as the #2 receiver that Williams will get enough targets to be a useful fantasy player. I'm going to stick with Williams as a SIT tonight.
If there is a Chargers receiver I think could have a good fantasy night it's Dontrelle Inman. Inman is a bigger wide receiver and for some reason Rivers like the bigger guys at wide out. Against a quality defense the 3rd receiver can find some holes and get some catches. That makes Inman the START for me tonight.
Virgil Green has been injured most of the season. He's been dealing with a calf injury, but did practice all week. There's not enough there to make me put Green in my line up; so he's and easy SIT for me.
I wouldn't have the guts to do it, but if you're in a deep league and you need a sleeper type of tight end maybe John Phillips is your guy. I know Phillips only has 2 catches and that's why he'd be a SIT for me, but he seems to get targets at the goal line and may end up with a touchdown catch tonight.
Antonio Gates returned from an injury last week, but wasn't a huge factor in the game. Luckily for fantasy owners he caught a touchdown. With his targets down I'm going to stay away from Gates; so he's a SIT tonight.
Hunter Henry has been seeing more and more targets in this offense, but with Gates back that number may go down. He's the future of the Chargers at tight end, but the future's not now. I'm not sure there enough there for me to play Henry tonight; so he's going to be a very tough SIT for me tonight.
Denver has one of if not the best defense in the NFL. I'm sure they where one of the first defenses drafted in your league. This is easy as they're a START every week not matter the match up.
San Diego always seems to suffer injuries to their top defenses guys and this season is no exception. They've found ways to lose a couple of leads this season and that makes it tough to play them. I'd say SIT this unit tonight.
There you go I hope this information helped you out in some way. Good luck this week and come back tomorrow and we'll see how things worked out for me.
Thanks for taking the time to read this article.
