Yes; you should draft a kicker

Drafting a Kicker in fantasy football is very much like drafting a Defense/Special Teams. As odd as it may seem there are actually a couple of strategies you can use. We all know that there will be someone in your league that will take Stephen Gostkowski of the New England Patriots way. way too early in the draft. Gostkowski has been the best fantasy kicker the last couple of season and is normally ranked about 20 spots higher then any other kicker, but there's no reason to jump up early and grab him. So if you don't get the best kicker' what do you do? First off don't panic every team has a kicker and if you're in a smaller league you'll find someone.  I'm in a 20-team league; so I have to make sure I find at least 1 kicker. So you missed out on Gostkowski look at your league scoring set up and find the kicker that fits it best. If you just get 3 points for a field goal not matter the length and 1 point for an extra point then look for a kicker from a team that should have a good offense. He may not get as many field goal attempts, but he should make up for it with the extra points. Last season Graham Gano of the Carolina Panthers made the most extra points with 56. If you're league gives extra points for longer field goals than find those guys who are making those longer field goals. Last season Robbie Gould of the Chicago Bears made 7 field goals of 50 yards or longer last season. Blair Walsh of the Minnesota Vikings and Steven Hauschka of the Seattle Seahawks each made 6 field goals of 50 yards or longer last season. Maybe you'll want to go with the kicker from the team that attempts the most field goals overall. In 2015 the Pittsburgh Steelers attempted 42 field goals to lead the NFL. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Baltimore Raves attempted 40 while the Bears and the Vikings each attempted 39 field goals. Make sure to check your league scoring and make sure there's not a big negative for a missed field goal. While the Buccaneers attempted a lot of field goals they missed 11 of them. The Los Angeles Rams missed 10 field goals while the New Orleans Saints missed 8 field goals last season. Look at the negative points for missing an extra point as well. Last season 5 teams the Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, Baltimore Raves and New England Patriots made all there extra point attempts. On the other side of this stat the Jacksonville Jaquars missed the most extra points last season with 7. There are people out there who will just make the kicker the last pick of there draft. This of course depends on the size of your league. I know other people who just take the kicker from their favorite team and hope that works out. Kicker is one of the toughest position in fantasy football to draft and while there are a lot of people out there who don;t think it's important do you really want to be the guy who drops a game because the kicker he picked as an after thought missed an extra point. It's easy to find the right kicker for you team. Match up the scoring system your league uses to the stats that a kicker put up last season or is projected to put up this season and see what fits your need best. There is a point when it's just best for your team to take the best kicker on the draft board. Remember while it's not the most important spot on your fantasy roster games can easily be won or lost by what a kicker provides for you.
