Butchers' Ballad (Part 1 of 4)

Butchers' Ballad (Part 1 of 4)

Come listen to this frightful tale

Of wrath and piracy,

When hopeless circumstance did birth

The Butchers of the seas.

On the dark Caribbean blue

A pirate roamed insane

Both kings and common folk did fear

The ruthless Thomas Zane

When Captain Zane and his men found

A merchant’s ship a sail,

They killed the crew and hanged the heads

Atop Sea Tyrant‘s rails.

And when Old Zane engaged the men

Of a ship called The Stag,

He killed the captain of the boat

And made his flesh a flag.

“Enough!” the English king said, when

He heard of Zane’s mad crimes,

“I’ll send my man Joe Butcher there

To make the Tyrant mine!”
