Androgel – how does it work? How can it benefit me?

Androgel is a medication that is basically used for the treatment of men who have testosterone deficiency. Testosterone being the male hormone produces the male physical characteristics and increases the sex drive in males. This medication will replace the testosterone that would be produced normally by the body. But androgel must be used only if the deficiency has been confirmed by its symptoms and blood tests.

How should the medication be used?

The normal dose which is recommended is Androgel 5g, which contains 50 mg testosterone which needs to be applied daily, preferably in the morning after shower. If you use the pump, you need to make sure that you know how many pumps need to be used per application. There are some people who might need up to 10 g once in a day.

The gel needs to be applied to a clean and dry area of a non – broken area of the skin on the shoulders, upper arms or the abdomen. The gel should not be applied to any genitals or any skin that is broken or damaged. After the gel is applied to the skin, allow it to dry for some time and then cover it with clothing.
