College Basketball Rapid Fire

College Basketball Rapid Fire

Oct 18, 2016, 10:25:40 PM Sport

Let’s get right into some college basketball rapid fire –

Best Player – Ivan Rabb, PF, University of California

As a sophomore, Rabb has the edge over incoming freshman like Harry Giles, Josh Jackson, Jason Tatum, and Markelle Fultz for this nod.

Best Freshman – Markelle Fultz, G, University of Washington

Unlike freshman at traditional basketball powerhouses like Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, etc, Fultz has the best chance to stand out on this year’s Washington team.

Best Senior – Monte Morris, PG, Iowa State

I’ve written about Morris before – his talent as a pick and role point guard is unparalleled in the college game.

Early Title Favorite – Duke

Duke has so much talent on their roster this year that it is actually a bit unfair. Only time will tell if they can sustain the early season hype.

Best Conference – ACC

Between Virginia, North Carolina, Duke, Louisville, Syracuse, and maybe even Florida State the top portion of the ACC is very strong.

Sleeper Team – Indiana

Led by sophomore Thomas Bryant, Indiana has a ton of potential for this upcoming year.

Best Mid-Major Team – Gonzaga

There shouldn’t be any surprise here. Gonzaga has been a dominant mid-major team over the past half-decade or so – and there is no reason to think that that will change in 2016-17.

Most Fun Team to Watch – West Virginia

Since coining the “Press Virginia” style of play, coach Bob Huggins has turned West Virginia and their press into one of the most fun teams to watch in any sport.

Most Improved Player – Melo Trimble, PG, University of Maryland

Trimble had a great start to his college career but has since fallen off quite a bit. 2016-17 will be his rebound year.

Players With the Best Chance to Improve Their Draft Stock – Nigel Hayes (Wisconsin) and Alonzo Trier (Arizona)

Both of these players are supremely talented wings. Hayes, a senior, and Trier, a sophomore, are each trying to lead their respected teams to the promise land.

Final Four Predictions – Kansas, Duke, Arizona, and Oregon

4 shots in the dark. All of these teams have a great chance to do something special – and they are not alone in that fact. Other teams like UNC, Virginia, Louisville, Villanova, Kentucky, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Xavier, and Gonzaga all look like possible Final Four teams as well.
