In sports, up-and-coming young talent is always of paramount importance. Without young players coming up through the ranks, sports would die out after just a few years. This is especially true in football; teams all over the globe aim to infuse their first team with spectacular young players in order to increase the longevity of their success. We have already gone through the Bundesliga’s top young talent, so now we are moving on to the English Premier League.
Marcus Rashford, 19, ST
Manchester United’s golden boy, Marcus Rashford has been lighting up for both Man U in the Premier League and England in their international campaigns. While Rashford is often stuck behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the Red Devils’ depth chart, manager José Mourinho still finds creative ways to use the youngster. Rashford’s stock has skyrocketed this season and with Ibra potentially leaving Manchester after this year, the Englishman will have the keys to the castle.
Dele Alli, 20, CAM
Another Englishman, Dele Alli might be the best Under-21 player in the entire world. He is flourishing as a first team starter and team leader for Tottenham, playing alongside Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen in manager Pochettino’s interchangeable front three. Alli’s great touch and rare ability to exploit every pocket of space has seen him garner 17 goals in all club competitions this season. Dele Alli is already a huge Premier League success; who’s to say what’s next?
Alex Iwobi, 20, LW
With Arsenal’s title hopes completely shattered, their Champions League ambitions having been destroyed by Bayern Munich, and Alexis Sanchez almost certainly leaving in the summer, what exactly does Arsenal have to be positive about? Alex Iwobi. Iwobi has blossomed into a top quality winger and has played on the left side for Arsenal in 33 appearances this season. The young Nigerian brings a much needed fresh attitude and some topnotch skills into the left side of Arsene Wenger’s 4-2-3-1.
Mason Holgate, 20, CB
The only defender on this list, Holgate has made a name for himself as one of the top young center backs in all of Europe. Mason Holgate’s value is two-fold. First, he can play in three of the four spots in the defense, making him one of the more versatile center backs in the Premier League. Second, he has speed. Holgate is able to close down offensive players extremely quickly, eliminating space for opponents to use. The youngster has made a number of appearances for Everton this season, but is still stuck behind veterans Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka on the depth chart.
Gabriel Jesus, 19, ST
Gabriel Jesus was well on his way making a massive impact on the 2016-2017 Premier League season. Unfortunately, after just 4 league games, Jesus was sidelined with a broken foot. Manchester City brought Jesus in from his Brazilian club, Las Palmas, during the transfer window and City allowed the young striker to get involved immediately. The Brazilian took advantage of the opportunity, snagging three goals in 4 Premier League games. If Gabriel Jesus manages to return before the end of the season, the rest of the league needs to watch out.
