Self-Love...Our Most Neglected Relationship!

Self-Love...Our Most Neglected Relationship!

Feb 18, 2017, 2:25:11 AM Life and Styles

I think it is reasonable to argue that life is about relationships.  We have relationships with people, places, ideas, the environment, and even objects.  By definition…relationships are the way in which two or more ideas, objects, or people are connected.  So it is safe to say that there is no way of avoiding relationships; for if we are alive, relationships are sure to follow.  Unfortunately, the relationship I see neglected most often and put at the lowest priority is the one we have with our self.  I think this is a grave tragedy and could be a big part of why we find the world in the state that it is in today.

It is important to take care of our self, especially in adulthood.  As a child there are others who care for and look after our needs, but that often dwindles way down or disappears all together in adulthood.  However, we are still human.  We still embody our same feelings, insecurities, doubts, the same wide range of emotions…yet now we have a lot more responsibility with no easily definable or necessarily consistent soft place to land.

Of course we still need gentleness, abundant love and nurturing!

So why is it so hard to grant this necessity to our self?  Why do we attach the idea of self-care with selfishness and guilt?  Why do we so easily talk ourselves out of what we can do to make ourselves smile, but never bat an eye at trying to make another smile.

If you can identify with any of these things, then the truth is that it is time to take your power back.  It is beyond time to show love, kindness and appreciation to yourself.  It is time to reunite with your own beautiful and unique inner glow.

This all begins when we start allowing ourselves to be factored in to our daily equations.  We all rank our life tasks to some degree.  Make sure you set yourself high up on that list from this day forward.  Don’t be afraid to advocate for what you need while lovingly asserting for what you deserve.  Take care of any neglected needs you have not been attending to.  Take the necessary action steps toward making yourself happy and whole again, the same as you would for a child in your care.  Be kind to yourself.  Love the greatness that is within you.
