BET Networks is proud to announce the signing of a notable new star and returning anchor to produce and host quarterly news specials that will delve deeply into the issues and stories that matter to Black America.

Widely considered to be one of the most compelling political pundits and commentators on television today, in 2018 Angela Rye will bring her uncompromising voice and passionate point of view to BET, as the executive producer and host of a new series of quarterly prime  time news specials. Rye expressed excitement about the new venture saying, “Working with BET always provides a reminder of why I began to do this work. It is essential that we have platforms where we can discuss our politics, our challenges, and our culture through our respective lenses. The upcoming special will provide a glimpse of what’s to come with our partnership.”

“Angela Rye’s State of the Union” (working title), a primetime rebuttal to President Trump’s State of the Union address, will be the first of her quarterly specials to air Wednesday, January 31 at 10 PM ET on BET Networks.

Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Rye learned the importance of advocacy through her family’s political and community activism. She is a proud graduate of the University of Washington and Seattle University School of Law.

Rye, CEO of IMPACT Strategies, a political advocacy firm in the nation’s capital, has been featured as an influential politico, lawyer, and advocate by several publications and outlets from Marie Claire to Ebony and the Washington Post, and has offered on-air commentary for several media outlets including BET, CNN, NBC, HBO, ABC, MSNBC and TV One.

In addition to Angela Rye, BET Networks also announced that award-winning BET News anchor Marc Lamont Hill has renewed his contract to continue anchoring BET News’ 2018 breaking news coverage, specials and town halls. “I couldn’t be happier to remain a part of the BET family. I am proud to help deliver the programming that our community needs and deserves. I am also excited to be joined by my brilliant colleague Angela Rye, who will make our team stronger than ever,” Hill said on the renewed opportunity with BET.
