My top 5 favourite books of all time

  1. Dance Dance Dance by Haruki Murakami- This book was the first Murakami novel I ever read. I have always been a reader, but this book for me creates a new timeline of when I started reading books that actually matter; books that speak to my soul. This book opened me up to the world of books that take you to other worlds- books that open you up to alternative realities. Just as a side note, I am truly in love with every Haruki Murakami book, but this one was the first one I ever read, so it holds a special place in my heart.
  2. Room by Emma Donoghue- This book is beautifully and cleverly written. The story line is compelling and leaves you in a constant state of ‘what’s going to happen next?!’ I loved the innocence that having a child narrator brings to this story. This was a lose-sleep-pver, just-one-more-chapter kind of book. Absolutely incredible.
  3. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradury- The fact that I had to read this several times in high school does not take away the love I have for this novel. Looking back, this book introduced me to science-fiction, other-worldly genre of literature. This story is powerful and poetic, and I will read it many more times throughout my life, I’m sure.
  4. 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami- If you thought Haruki Murakami was only going to be mentioned once, you were very mistaken. 1Q84 is technically a trilogy but it comes as a big book in three sections. For lack of better words, this story blew my freaking mind. I have never spent so many hours and days thinking about a book. I truly believe this book changed how I see the world. That sentence will sound absurd until you read it for yourself.
  5. Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka- Are you starting to sense a theme? I like weird books, okay? This book was absurd in all the right ways. I think this book is one big clever analogy. There are so many layers to this novel. I loved it and would recommend it to anyone and everyone. A must read.
