The "Yes" Girl

I’m a “yes” girl by nature.

Some people are born to play basketball. Some people are born singing songs.

Me? I was born to say, “Yes.”

That’s what it feels like anyways.

You need volunteers to clean the park? Sign me up! Can I do a tennis lesson? Well, why not! Hiking at three? I’ll be there. Would I like to be a photographer for this random, miscellaneous event? Oh, would I ever! There’s a soccer game tonight! I’ll be sitting in the front! You’ve got an extra concert ticket to a band that I’ve never heard of? Yes, I’d love to go! Will I design your second cousin’s birthday invitations? Consider it done!

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.

Sometimes, that’s my life.

I said sometimes because I’m working on it. I’m not perfect. I wish I didn’t feel compelled to jump on every opportunity that crosses my path.

Give me a couple million dollars and the newest, greatest technology… Five clones of myself later, I still would not be able to do everything I wanted to.

The dirty truth? Sometimes I make to-do lists on my church bulletin during the service. And probably use my planner more in a day than my Bible.

But this is what I’m learning.

Love. Joy. Peace. Patience. Kindness. Goodness. Faithfulness. Gentleness. Self-control.

Busyness isn’t a Fruit of the Holy Spirit.

So, here I am, preaching to myself.

  • Busy does not equate happiness.
  • You were meant to rest.
  • Saying no is not the end of your world, their world, or anyone’s world.

Take it from a girl who’s mantra is, “You can do hard things.” You can do hard things. But not all of the things…
