This is the second post of the series on business dynamics and today we are going to talk about the 5 key steps and things to consider that will help you make the right choice for the next employment.
Step 1: Research the company and the position - now this may sound basic and predictable but you would be surprised how many people send applications in hope to be noticed by the employers and do not understand what they are applying for. Researching the position you are applying for and not just by looking at the job description, is important to evaluate whether the position suits your personality, does it have all the attributes you are looking for in a job, etc. If after the research you are not convinced that you will enjoy the position, pass on to next ad. There is nothing worse than being hired for your skills but not enjoy the job you are at and count the days until the next salary slip comes in. If after a thorough research you are still interested, send your application.
Step 2: Consider more than just salary -salary is just a number. Yes, it helps you pay your bills and sustain your family and it is important but do not base your decision purely on numeric incentive. Make sure you have visited the office to get the feel and the look of the office, see how the colleagues interact between each other and what is enterprise dynamics. These are important to you working environment and should weigh equally as much as your salary considerations.
Step 3: Colleagues & Dynamics - when it comes to your interview and you are out of questions to ask your potential employer: ask about the dynamics within the enterprise: What is the average age of your colleagues? Are there social events for team building? How do they handle situations when someone has a conflict with a colleague? These questions show that you are interested in the company more as an employee and working conditions are priorities for you. Remember that it is an interview for you just as it is for them. Do not be afraid to ask questions that matter for you.
Step 4: Take your time - do not accept an offer in a rush. Take your time, read your contract/offer and ask for a week to decide before jumping on board. This shows that you are paying attention to detail and can make a balanced decision. This also puts pressure on the employer who may think you have other options to consider, which is good for your candidature profile.
Step 5: Choose something your are passionate about - no matter what you do, choose a position that is within your interests - it will make your job more exciting and you won't feel pressured or tired. Instead you will feel excitement and be encouraged to accomplish something and overcome any challenges you face.
