Healthy Breakfast Bowl- Energize your morning!

I have a confession: I love carbohydrates- specifically bread, but I’m not so sure bread likes me. Let me explain- for more years that I can remember, my breakfast has consisted of a medium to large sized bagel (whole grain, blueberry, or cinnamon) with either peanut butter or cream cheese and jelly. No matter how many times I’ve tried to switch up my breakfast to something a little more balanced such as scrambled eggs with a whole grain English muffin, or plain oatmeal, I have always come back to my beloved bagels. A whole grain bagel with natural peanut butter isn’t exactly a poor breakfast choice, but it isn’t the best either- especially every single day. After growing tired of, well feeling tired, in the morning and experiencing a growling stomach one to two hours after breakfast, I once again looked to switch up my breakfast routine. I have recently become intrigued by the Dolce Diet and purchased his booked titled Living Lean- you can find it here: I typically do not ever promote any kind of specific diet. Despite “diet” in the name, this is not a diet, this is a lifestyle of whole foods and healthy living. I am not going to get into the specifics of Mike Dolce’s diet during this post, but I highly recommend checking out his website and books. The reason I bring up the Dolce Diet is because I have been eating a version of Mike Dolce’s breakfast bowl for the past couple of weeks. His recipe is located here along with his 20-minute morning routine: I make a similar version with a few different ingredients. Since switching to this breakfast bowl in the morning, I feel less tired, more satisfied and full during the morning (I still have a small snack of some almonds or Greek yogurt mid-morning) and my mind is much clearer when I go into work. I know I’m making this sound like a magic pill- which it certainly isn’t- but it does prove to me that a healthy, well balanced breakfast makes a world of difference for my morning. Below is my breakfast bowl- feel free to make it your own!

*1/3 cup Oats- cooked in ¾ cup water (I microwave for about 2 minutes or until cooked- can be cooked on the stove as well)

*1 tbsp chia seeds

*1/2 sliced banana

*1 tbsp crunchy natural peanut butter


Mix together and enjoy!
