Maybe it’s time you should cash your car and get your first EV (Electric Vehicle) … and you’re probably thinking about it since they’re becoming more and more popular by the second.

But there are many factors you have to take into account before you make that decision, and most likely, how much money you’re going to spend is your main concern right now, obviously, electric cars do cost more than internal-combustion cars, but that gap is closing fast enough. And they’re becoming affordable to anyone around the block.

here’s a list of what cars you might want to buy if you don’t want to break the bank, read on…

Nissan Leaf

It has all the makings of an amazing car: The Leaf is easy to drive, is affordable, boasts the lowest running costs among electric cars, and even gets really good battery life.

It has a longer range than any other electric car at 200 miles (just 30 miles short of the Chevy Bolt EV). The 2018 Nissan Leaf gets up to 107 miles on a single charge. With the exception of longer ranges, it also has the lowest price-per-mile in the EV market. According to data published by the KPMG sustainability and cost of ownership review, a single Leaf can be driven 175,000 miles before having to spend more than $250 on fuel, maintenance, and insurance. With all that being said, the Leaf starts at $29,990, which is a great price.

Honda Clarity

The Honda Clarity is what many people are calling the “Tesla killer”, and it’s definitely not a knockoff – it looks almost exactly like a Tesla, for a reason, it was designed by an ex-Tesla designer. It’s got a range of 310 miles and a plug-in hybrid version that’s even more efficient than its gas-powered counterpart.

It’s rated to hit up to 48 miles (but the range extends to 340 miles when both its electric and gas power are in play) in a single charge, the Clarity’s 1.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine also generates 181 horsepower and 109 pound-feet of torque. The price for this car is around $33,500 and it has a lot of features that you won’t find in any other car in its price range.

Chevrolet Bolt

One of the most affordable all-electric cars we have available. It’s also a great car for the price, the interior is spacious and you get an 11-inch touchscreen display with apps for navigation, calling, and music and comes with an airbag and heated seats.

This affordable hybrid is as good as it gets when it comes to electric cars on the market. It’s powered by a 70 kWh lithium-ion battery that delivers enough power for more than 250 miles and is charged in less than two hours. You don’t need any separate charger, as long as you have a regular household outlet.

The two-door version starts at $37,495 while the four-door version starts at $41,700.

BMW i3

This is BMW’s first mass-market model and it has been nothing short of commercial success, so if you’re in the market for a new EV, this is one of the best options for you if you want to switch your car for a brand new EV.

One of the most affordable EVs available out there and one of the best performing. It gets 190 miles per charge. It is one of the less affordable electric cars out there, retailing for just over $44,450. But it's also an extremely comfortable car with loads of room for the family and it's got a lot of safety features.

Tesla Model 3

Of course, one of the most popular names in the EV market is Tesla...

Outselling all the other EVs launched in its year. Its starting price is $35,000 which is nothing compared to a similarly priced internal-combustion car, and its battery life will range from 250 miles (400 kilometers) to 310 miles (500 kilometers).

Simply, a great choice.

Hyundai Ioniq EV

The first electric car from Hyundai made waves when it was first released, and now it’s even more affordable, more eco-friendly, and still one of the best value EVs on the market today. Just ask anyone who owns one! It starts at a much more affordable $30,000, has a great range (up to 265 miles on a single charge), top speeds of 75 MPH (in fast-charging mode), and best of all – no charging infrastructure necessary.
