Requirements You Need to Consider Before Applying to Study in the U.S

If you’re planning to study in the U.S, that means you already know what this process involves. Indeed, you can live in the United States if you’re a full-time student but having your paperwork on the spot can make a huge difference between the unforgettable student experience and possible deportation.

The USA has the largest international student population, with more than 1,000,000 students choosing to widen their life experiences and education there. But even though they can provide you with numerous opportunities to broaden your life experience and develop as an individual, becoming an international student in the USA is not simple. As exciting as it sounds, many students can find this process frustrating and overwhelming. The application process is competitive and complex, which means you’ll have to be fully dedicated before classes even start. However, before starting packing your bags, here are five things you need to have before applying to study in the U.S.

Financial Information and application fee

There still are many students who are not aware that they must pay an application fee to colleges and universities in the USA. Yet, this is understandable since it isn't normal practise in other countries. It might be worth knowing that application fees can range in price depending on the state or school. According to a study by U.S. News, the average cost of college application fee is almost $43, while the most common charge for college application is $50.

Keep in mind that the application fee is crucial, as you won't be able to submit your application until the tax has been paid. Moreover, no matter where you choose to 美国留学, most schools will require proof that you're financially stable, so make sure you bring a bank statement or other documents to show financial eligibility.

Passport

Because you are not a U.S. citizen, you will need a passport to complete your studies. It goes without saying that without a passport number, you cannot submit your application because the school won't be able to issue the necessary form for a student visa. Moreover, your passport has to be valid six months ahead of the date your planned studies have concluded. For instance, if your study program ends in May 2020, your passport must be valid through November 2020. Therefore, ensure your passport is valid before filing any paperwork.

Academic records and test scores

Because there is an abundance of educational programs in the U.S., you probably know each has its own requirements for admission. Namely, schools that offer undergraduate programs will ask students to submit ACT or SAT scores even before presenting the application, while those who provide postgraduate programs may ask for MCAT, GRE or GMAT test results, but again, this might depend on the program you choose.

In addition to academic records and test scores, like any other international student, you'll have to submit IELTS or TOEFL to determine a suitable undergraduate or postgraduate program.

We know that a huge part in the application process can be overwhelming, especially if you're leaving home for the first time. Still, with diligent planning and dedication, you can't miss this opportunity.
