Everything to Know About Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition

Age of Empires 3 has looked impressive from the beginning, but never as great as this one. Age of Empire 3: Definitive Edition offers content from previous versions as well as expansions of Age of Empires 3. Players get three full campaigns to play. However, compared to the previous iterations, the campaigns are far less historical here.

New in The Age of Empire 3: Definitive Edition is the Art of War Modes and the Historical Battles. The preview had access to only one of the campaigns: Algiers, which is a defensive mission where you have to survive a siege within the city.

Challenges in the Art of War are much simpler. They are short challenges, similar to the Challenge Mission equivalents in Starcraft 2. Based on your performance, they award medals. These challenges are beneficial for the newcomers or the players that are returning so that they can polish their skills.

Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition has two new civilizations, which makes a total of 16 playable factions. They are named The Inca and The Swedish. The Inca can assign villagers of their choice to the performing ceremonies for a time. On the other hand, Swedish, grow passively and then gather berry bushes for an excess amount of food generation, and to obtain additional resources, they free up some villagers.

The Definitive Edition also has graphical updates. It feels good and more entertaining to run games on modern resolutions. The sounds of musket fire and battle make the game more unique. However, even if the models have been updated, there are many cutscenes from older gameplay.

The Definitive Edition of The Age of Empire 3 adds cross-network updates alongside the official spectator and mod support. Previously two major hurdles stood in the way of the multiplayer game’s success: The Home City and faction balance.

The Home City is a deck-building system allowing you to make a per civilization selection of shipments. When you accomplish actions in a match, you get experience, which lets you dispatch the shipments. The shipments can be anything from unique upgrades to resources, and a squad of units.

In the Definitive Edition of The Age of Empire 3, there is no need for you to grind or unlock options. You get everything from the get-go for your Home City, which allows you to build your deck easily.

The Definitive Edition looks and sounds better than ever, but it is hard to say if it has content enough to justify a second purchase. Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition is all set to launch on Microsoft and Steam on October 16, and the game will be available only on Game Pass.
