Today, you can find CBD in practically every product imaginable. Versatile as CBD is, it is available in a range of forms — from oils and edibles to lotions and pills — that can be taken in various ways. 

However, before delving into the CBD world, there is a lot you need to know to ensure CBD products are right for you. This includes finding out the common types of products, the best ways to take them and how you can incorporate various CBD products into your day-to-day life. So, here is everything you need to know about CBD.

Three Types Of CBD

We are all unique, and so are our considerations when deciding when to consume CBD oil and in what form. This is where we can truly come to love CBD for the flexibility that it offers us apart from the many health benefits and healing properties. 

CBD products are available in three different compound concentrations: full-spectrum, broad-spectrum and CBD isolate. CBD isolate consists of CBD only; in this compound, all other parts of the hemp plant are completely removed. 

Differently, full-spectrum CBD products contain more different compounds; vitamins, terpenes, and minerals found in a hemp plant, as well as small traces of THC (less than 0.2%, which is considered legal in most countries of the EU). 

Broad-spectrum CBD resembles full-spectrum but differs in having THC totally drawn out of the formula. Full-spectrum and broad-spectrum CBD types are great because all the cannabinoids and terpenes present in them are thought to work in synergy and strengthen the hoped for therapeutic effect by creating the entourage effect.

Four Common Ways To Take CBD


Since CBD oil comes in various forms such as pills, gummies, vapes, topicals, etc., each method delivers this beneficial compound to your body in a different way, which in turn affects what it can be used for and how often you need to take it. In fact, each of our bodies responds differently to cannabidiol, meaning there are no universal ways of taking CBD. However, there are four primary methods for taking CBD oil, which you can try.   

Sublingual/Oromucosal administration. Whether you choose to buy CBD oil, tincture or oral spray to be either placed under the tongue for sublingual absorption or on the cheek for oromucosal absorption. With sublingual consumption, we can experience the effect of CBD in as little as 15 minutes.

Oral/Ingestible consumption. CBD capsules and pills come in the form of chocolates, cakes, gummies and even honey! They contain cannabinoids alongside oil or solid excipients and are absorbed in the digestive tract after administration. There's one drawback with taking capsules though, it is a slow-acting method and can take anywhere between 45 mins to 2 hours until we experience the effect of CBD.

Inhalation. Vaping, done through CBD oil vaporisers, is one of the quickest ways to see the effect as compounds are absorbed directly from the lungs into the bloodstream. On the downside, the effect lasts only a few hours, and it is not clear whether the process damages our delicate lung tissue. So if we decide to vape CBD, we need to be cautious.

Topical application. There are balms, creams and moisturisers, ointments, bath bombs, massage oils and transdermal patches that are typically used for localised treatments such as muscle pain and inflammation. As such products are applied topically on the skin, they don't enter the bloodstream, and the effect usually lasts for a couple of hours.

In most cases, oral administration is the most popular, followed by inhalation via e-liquid of CBD oil. These are followed by oromucosal/sublingual administration and, finally, topical application. Also, there are certain products for specialised applications such as CBD oil for anxiety, CBD topicals and gummies for pain etc.  

Different Ways We Could Incorporate CBD Into Our Daily Routine

CBD is potentially helpful in relieving symptoms such as anxiety, depression and pain. It may enhance our sleep quality, help calm our nervous system and improve our overall quality of life. Moreover, it's versatility allows us to choose how and when we want to consume it to best suit our lifestyle and preferences. 

As The Start Of The Day 

Mornings are potent in that they set the tone for the day. For some of us, this is the best time to consume CBD and start our day on a high note (no pun intended!) Many believe that adding CBD oil or tincture to their morning coffee or juice heightens the drink's effect and extends to them everything that CBD has to offer. However, an even more effective dosage would be to place a few drops of CBD tincture under the tongue for sublingual absorption. This would send the CBD straight into our bloodstream, and the result would indeed be powerful.

Getting A Boost At Work

No doubt, work can be stressful, and, for some of us, there's no better time to take our dose of CBD than whilst dealing with the pressures at our desk. We have to be discreet, though, which makes CBD edibles or tinctures the most practical options. And because CBD tinctures and edibles are naturally slow-release, they can help us experience the calming effect of CBD throughout our hectic day.

Before & After Workouts

For those who swear by regular workouts, an option worth exploring is taking the needed CBD dose before and after exercise. CBD is effective in relieving pain, reducing inflammation, boost energy and mood and shorten the time of post-workout recovery; this way, we can exercise longer, recuperate faster and get the most out of our workouts day after day.

Before Bedtime

There's no doubt that when we sleep well, we wake up feeling rejuvenated both physically and mentally and are able to perform better during the day.
