Amazing Benefits of Coconut Oil

Amazing Benefits of Coconut Oil

I am sure by now you have heard at least one thing (but probably more) about coconut oil and how amazing it is. Although, it's only recently become a phenomenon  in the Western world, other cultures have been using coconut oil for centuries.

The benefits of coconut oil are endless! And it's not a fad, there are numerous studies that prove how effective this oil is.

However, I will not tell you about what I've read or heard, there is Google for that.

Here are 5 AMAZING benefits of coconut oil I've tried personally:

1. Hair

This is actually how I've discovered how great coconut oil was and the reason why I started using it. Loving to experiment with my hair as much as I do, I have bleached it numerous times and coloured it all different colours of the rainbow. This caused in extreme damage of my hair, hair loss, and thinning. But also having curly hair, it made me lose my curls.

I was desperate.

After some research, I bought a jar of organic coconut oil and started to do treatments on my hair. My hair grew stronger, longer and thicker. Now, this did not happen over time. It took a few months and repeated treatments. My curls also came back!

You don't necessarily have to have hair damage to use coconut oil. It's great for overall health of your hair. It gives shine, elasticity and moisture.

How to use coconut oil in your hair:

1. Separate hair in sections to apply more easily and not to miss any strands.

2. Apply coconut oil, starting from your ends up to your roots. Massage the oil with your fingers to really saturate it in  your hair. (The amount you use will depend on your hair length and texture)

3. When you are done applying the coconut oil in your hair, massage a bit on your scalp.

4. Tie up your hair in a bun and cover with a scarf. You can either keep it for a couple of hours or over night.

5. Rinse with only water (no shampoo or conditioner) and style as you normally would.

6. You can do it once or twice a week.

Results are amazing. Try it and you'll see.

2. Skin

I would not use coconut oil as a daily moisturizer as it is extremely greasy but I do lather my skin with it once a week (normally Sundays as it's my relaxing day). I just apply it all over and put a robe on and chill out. I have been doing this for years and my skin is super smooth, silky and soft. It also evens out your skin tone, any spots you may have, minimizes scars and stretch marks.

You can also use it to shave with instead of soap or shaving cream. This is for both men and women.
In addition to leaving you with smooth skin, you'll have no redness, no razor burns or hair bumps !

3. Nails

A few times a week (whenever you remember really) I rub coconut oil on my nails and cuticles. I have also been doing this for years and my nails grow really fast and strong. My mom has very brittle nails and I've suggested coconut oil to her. She has been doing it every night before bed for a few months now and already noticed a change. No chipping, they don't break off as easily and have a nice healthy shine to them.

4. Inflammation

I have rosacea, which is a chronic skin condition that primarily affects the face. Which really means, that I have permanent rosy cheeks and occasionally flare ups with red itchy burning bumps all over my face. Applying coconut oil on my face, has significantly reduced the flare ups, and minimized the redness on my cheeks.

Rosacea makes your face feel really  hot, actually I feel like my entire head is on fire at times, it itches and it gets puffy. When I get an episode, I apply coconut oil at night and by morning, the inflammation has calmed down.

You don't have to have rosacea, but coconut oil can help with any skin inflammation. Don't be afraid to try it, because it definitely cannot make it worse.

5. Immune system

Coconut oil is anti-EVERYTHING. Anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, etc.

Take a spoon of coconut oil a day for overall immune system boost.

Anyway, you may be wondering who has time for all this or patience or who can even remember. But I have a jar in the kitchen and a jar in the washroom. It's right there in front of my eyes to remind me in case I do forget. But believe me, once you try it and see amazing benefits, you'll be hooked!

I'd love to hear if you use coconut oil too and what you use it for. Do share, I'd love to know and try it for other things too!
