"We do not need guns and bombs to bring peace, we need love and compassion" - Mother Teresa
My heart goes out to the people of Dallas and the families of all those who lost loved ones in these senseless killings particularly the families of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.
There are no words to express the sadness and grief caused by these dastardly acts. There are never words to express the grief and pain felt by the families left behind. Cutting short the lives of people for any reason at all is incomprehensible.
When are we going to realize that every life is sacred? When are we going to realize that no one has the right to take another’s life? When are we going to understand that all lives matter? Where do we get off thinking one race or color is superior to another? What is so bad about the color, race or tribe of a person that others think they are better off dead? Who are we to think the color of our skin is better than another? What is so different about others that makes their lives worthless compared to ours? Where do we get off thinking that we are better than others?
We came into this world as God destined not because we had a choice or say in it. You didn’t get to choose to be black or white; Asian or African. We all came as God designed to live that life of purpose He has planned out for us in abundance and happiness. So why do you think you have the right to cut short the life of another for any reason at all?
Black/white, Green/blue, whatever race, color or tribe, there is NEVER a moral justification for killing. You do not create life hence you have no right to take it. These senseless killings that have taken place over this past week, where have they ended? Aren't we now plagued with more hate? More anger? More grief? More sorrows and pain? All boils down to the question, WHY?
What joy do you derive from seeing others suffer? What power do you think you have to dominate others because you right now occupy a position of authority in the society? Hatred leads to more hatred. Violence leads to more violence. I did say before and I repeat again, even virtues and vices obey the Coulomb’s law of physics – Like charges repels while opposites attract.
Evil can never counter evil. That is the work of good. You want to get back at those who have done you wrong? You want to get back at those who have caused you pain? The surest and most guaranteed way of doing this is to do good and be genuinely good. Trust me, this is a hard road to take but it is the surest way of putting an end to all this. Someone has to rise above this animosity that has taken hold of the world today and that is You and I.
Mahatma Gandi said, "An eye for an eye will only make the whole world blind".
Nothing gets to the heart of evil as much as good. You want to see that person who has hurt you so much squirm? Then love and do good. I understand that anger is a normal human emotion but do not let it lead you into doing evil.
Acting on hurts and pains leads to more hurts and pains. Anger may seem like the easier road to take but in actual fact, it never really is. You may feel justified for any ill action you take against another person but truth be told, you are not and never will be justified. You are filled with emptiness because evil never brings peace or fulfillment. It is always accompanied with fear, insecurities, pain and sorrow. Why would you opt for this kind of life?
It is good to have positive anger. Yes! Be angry enough to want to put an end to hatred and fight for world peace. Be angry enough to want to stop the devil from having his way by causing disruptions and commotions. Be angry enough to want to put an end to pain, sadness and tears. Be angry enough to fight for a better world and the safety of your family.
BE ANGRY ENOUGH TO DO GOOD AND MAKE THE WORLD A SAFE HAVEN.
Religious war, political battles, tearing other people down, ending lives doesn't give happiness or joy. It doesn't make you fulfilled or satisfied. At the end of the day, all road leads to regrets because when you ask yourself, "What indeed have I spent my life doing all this time?" When faced with your conscience and there is nobody around for you to brag to or intimidate, who are you then?
Noam Chomsky said, "See, people with power understand exactly one thing: violence"
I have a friend who always say, "Let your conscience be your guide". I understand some people lack a conscience now as they must have lost it inside much hate but the honest truth is your conscience never really dies. Sure it may stay quiet but it never really dies and when you least expect it, when you think you are at peace with your life and all your actions, it flashes a thought through your mind that makes your heart beat in fear and regret. You may not want to admit this to anyone or even yourself but your conscience is always alive and bidding its time to one day confront you with your actions.
If we try to find out the origin and the very reason behind these senseless killings, what do you think the answers would be? I cannot even begin to imagine any logical reason to take someone's life. It is just TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. It should not be condoned. The hatred in our world today digs deeper than we know. It's so deep that people do not even know the reason why they hate anymore. They just do.
People are angry for sins from the past. People still carry the hurt and pain in our hearts. The hate towards fellow humans to the extent of enslaving them remains unfathomable. The hate continues today even in shackles, cuffs and guns. People are angry. People want to express their hurts and pains. People want to be able to comprehend how a human being can comfortably take the life of another without any justification.
Whatever reasons for the initial killings, the end point became personal vendetta leading to the loss of other lives. Violence begets violence. It never puts a stop to it instead it fuels the world with rage and never peace.
Again, Mahatma Gandi said, "I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent".
We all want to live in a safe and secure world. How can this be achieved when we are powerless to control even our own emotions and feelings towards others? We ALWAYS, ALWAYS have control over our feelings and reactions to situations except we choose not to control them. We are never encouraged to repay evil for evil. Can a blind man lead a blind man?
Be calm. Pause awhile. Take a breather. Analyse a situation before you act. Anger blinds you. Anger confuses you. Anger clouds your sense of judgment. Anger leading to more harm is never the answer.
IT IS ENOUGH. IT IS TIME TO TAKE A STAND.
Yehuda Bauer said, "Thou shalt not be a victim, thou shalt not be a perpetrator, but, above all, thou shalt not be a bystander".
We have to decide to put an end to violence. Let us rise together as a people and put an end to violence. Let us not be bystanders and watch evil happen before us while we keep quiet. NO FREAKING WAY!
Let us put an end to this vicious cycle of hate. No one is born evil or wicked. It is a path we choose because we think it is easier to hate than to love. We figure it is easier to hold a grudge than to forgive. We believe being wicked and evil is a simpler route to take than being good and kind. How wrong that mentality is.
We have a responsibility not only to ourselves but to our children. What are we teaching them? When they are exposed to violence such as this, how do we expect them to be good? What do we expect them to grow up to be?
We must understand that children these days are way smarter than before. They take on habits easily and it is what we show them; it is how we act around them, that they learn. You can't be a violent parent and then turn around to scold or punish your child for being rude, insulting or even a bully.
What right do you have to correct the child when you are the source of what and who he/she has become? Yes, children these days engage in bullying their mates. They already have pride set in their hearts and they begin to act like they are untouchable. They learn from what they see, what they hear, what they perceive.
How do you explain to a 4-year old that her dad was taken away from her forever for no reason? How do you want such a child to understand that love remains ultimate?
We all need Jesus. We need God to live and dwell within us, He who is the true source and originator of love. We need God now, more than ever. Only Him can heal the pain in our hearts and dissipate the negative anger we feel. We are in dire need of His help today more than ever before.
Where has it ever been heard that evil is celebrated over good? NO matter how long it takes, no matter how much it tries to be buried, good will forever be triumphant over evil.
Ernst F. Schumacher said, "Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction".
Hearts are broken. Children are rendered fatherless. Women are rendered widows. What is it? Why cant we just stop? What is it that fuels the hatred towards another human being so much that you believe his life is of no value? How do you sleep comfortably in your homes after subjecting another to a life of untold pain, sorrow and agony? How do you seek for security for your own life and that of your family when you go on tormenting others?
You cant wake up every morning to your wonderful family and profess love and peace to them while you harbor hate for others. Think of how you hate other people…..how would you feel knowing that other people hate you and your family just as much or even more?
Treat others how you want to be treated.
Life is a precious and most sacred gift. Let Him who gives it be the one to take it when the time is right. No such authority is handed to man. We are all entitled to life. We are entitled to our freedom. We are entitled to true happiness and awesome living. Live your life and let others live theirs. Don’t interfere by cutting it short.
We all have choices to make at every point in our lives and whatever those choices are, they will go down in history as part of our lives' stories. Choose forgiveness today over enmity. Choose love over hate. Choose happiness over pain and sadness. Choose laughter over tears. Choose positives over negatives. Choose freedom over bondage.
Enough with the silence. Let us speak out now and air our grievances. Speak out and let go of the pain once and for all. Let go of the hurt no matter how hard, it is very much doable. The hurts and the pains only eat deeper and deeper into us never resulting to healing or restoration.
The change begins with us. If you and I can stand today on the side of peace and fight against evil, then the change has started and like a ripple effect, it goes on to affect others and soon the positive attitude spreads and overcomes evil. Irrespective of the color of our skin, race, tribe or religion, we all are brothers and sisters. Happiness and peace should be the basis on which we thrive. Enough with the hate. Enough with the pain.
So, let us say NO to hate. Say NO to violence. Say No to evil. Say No to revenge. Say No to the killings.
I stand on the side of peace, love and happiness and I stand against evil, hatred, revenge or pain.
Where do you stand?
