The Crux
The blue-jay and the blackbird
The mockingbird will tell
Better to think well of others
Than attract a ne’er-do-well
The butterfly and spider
Hard workers, you’ll hear said
Nature’s own soldiers
From pollen to the web
Enmity is shouting
Yet, silently, love grows
Teamwork wins out over hate
The night sky’s heart will show
That the Crux, though dim, is brightly lit
From southern hemisphere, in view
The essence of the resolute
Is the better part of you.
