Why do people write? If we have words in us we have to, end of story. The details of the stories vary endlessly, we know that, but however it happens the words have to get out. After a years-long hiatus, if I don't write every day now the clamoring words start to chip away at my insides until I feel like a flimsy, hollow, murky thing that nobody knows...so yeah, the doing of the writing has to happen. Right after the drinking of the coffee.
Humor is my fav tool for making the words go down easier and I try to splash it around liberally. You won't necessarily get me at first, but jokes die from explanation so if you see something that makes you want to hang with me, cool, it will all become clear when it's too late to bail. Oh wait...open door here, always.
When my son suggested I start a blog, I had no clue what I'd write about. Over the past three-plus years I've pretty much covered the gamut, so if you aren't thrilled with the first thing you read, press on, I'll get to your subject before long. You can expect my intrinsically-liberal slant on whatever my day holds at the moment, in the form of haiku, loosely slapped-together poetry, sarcasm at every turn, awestruck reviews of the books that change me, prose about family history, religion, politics - the forbidden dinner-table topics - the occasional piece of fiction, it's all in there somewhere.
I can't wait to talk with the kindred spirits out there I haven't met until now.
