Since I was a young man I have always had one constant in my life when everything else changed and that was my faith in God and in the Bible as his Word. I still continue to fail to live up to the high standard God has set for our lives. The standard for for how we live our lives is presented to us the Bible.
The Bible is sometimes called "the canon" which literally refers to "a ruler" or "a measuring stick" and it is the measure by which we all should judge our lives. I believe based on what the Bible says that the Bible is not only the measure for our lives here and now but it is the measure by which every person's life will be judged when they pass from this world to the next. In other words how live now will affect our eternal destiny as well our rewards in the next life.
But how can I be so happy about a book which sets a measure that I can never fully live up to? The reason is because God knows I can't and none of us can and that is why he sent his Son in the form of man - that man was Jesus Christ.
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
John 3:16 (KJV)
He died for us because we can never measure up to God's standards and he knew we would "miss the mark" which is literally what sin is by Biblical standards.
All human beings have equal value in God's eyes and no one is more or less valuable to God because they are male, female, rich, poor or of a certain ethnic or racial background.
"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus."
Galatians 3:28 (KJV)
But just because we all have equal value to God this does not mean he has given us the same rights and responsibilities. Specifically when it comes to the genders the Bible is clear that God made one gender for the other.
"Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man."
I Corinthians 11:9 (KJV)
Because woman was made for man she is to submit to him "in every thing" as the Bible commands:
"Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing."
Ephesians 5:24 (KJV)
The Bible reveals that woman was created for man in much the same way that man was created for God and in the same way that all mankind should worship God and live according to his design and purpose so too women should live for this husbands in obedience and submission to God purpose for their lives.
Men in turn are to love their wives with a sacrificial love that leads, protects and provides for their wives as God lovingly leads, protects and provides for his people.
"25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it...29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:"
Ephesians 5:25 & 29 (KJV)
As Christians we do not believe we are saved by good words or by following God's law or will for lives in every way. We believe that we are saved by grace alone and faith alone in Jesus Christ as our Savior. However it would be a grave mistake to think that God does not care how we live our lives as believers because he certainly does. Every believer in Christ will give an account of his or her life to God in the judgment when our life in this world ends. It is in that judgment that we will either be rewarded or be ashamed for how we have adhered to God's law including his laws regarding gender roles.
11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
I Corinthians 3:11-15 (KJV)
So it is for these reasons that I founded my blog BiblicalGenderRoles.com with a specific emphasis on the importance of following Biblical gender roles in our lives. If a person is born in a man's body they have the man's purpose and test to take that God has given them. If a person is born in a woman's body than they have the woman's purpose and test to take that God has given them.
I believe that when men and women truly embrace the roles for which God made them this is when they truly find peace and happiness. But if a person lives contrary to the purpose for which God created them they will never find true peace and happiness no matter how they try to fool themselves otherwise.
