Bad Day

Bad Day

No matter how well we plan, we can almost be assured that during the day something will go wrong.  When it does, it often compounds itself.  We don’t just spill our morning coffee, we spill it front of a bunch of people.  We don’t just take a wrong turn, we end up in construction that makes us even later.  We don’t just forget our lunch, it turns out to be a busy day and we have no time to go out to eat.  What do you do when this happens?  I try to make my response, ‘At least now the day has to improve’.

This doesn’t take away the misfortune that has just happened, but it does put it into perspective.  There is nothing I can do to change the past, so let’s concentrate on the future.

Philippians 4:4 reminds us to “Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.”  I was surprised when I read that the Greek word used here for ‘rejoice’ does not mean to jump up and down but instead to be cheerful or calmly happy.  We need to go through our days with that attitude, to be calmly happy in all circumstances.
