There is a verse in the Bible that I have always found both puzzling and amusing. Deuteronomy 30:19 tells us, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.” (KJV) Do we really need advice in this situation? God says He has set before us both life and death, and then He has to tell us to choose life. Why does He feel it necessary to coach me on this decision? I cannot see why anyone in their right mind, would choose death. To me it seems obvious that the only choice is life.
Yet, it is sad, in today’s world there are still many who choose death. Why?!? Could it be they don’t understand the question? The reason we need to be told to choose life is beautifully explained in 2 Corinthians 4:4. “All they have eyes for is the fashionable god of darkness. They think he can give them what they want, and that they won’t have to bother believing a Truth they can’t see. They’re stone-blind to the dayspring brightness of the Message that shines with Christ, who gives us the best picture of God we’ll ever get. (The Message)
