For over a hundred years the reign of Queen Victoria was the longest among British monarchs at 63 years, 216 days. Recently she was surpassed by Elizabeth II. Many monarchs throughout the world have reigned for more than 70 years. The longest of all history is Sobhuza II of Swaziland who reigned from 1899 to 1982, a total of 82 years, 254 days. But no king will ever reign forever. They will all die and pass their throne on to another.
All that is except God. The first part of Psalms 10:16 reads, “The LORD is King for ever and ever.” This is echoed in the last part of Psalms 29:10, “the LORD sitteth King for ever.” He has been King from eternity past and will remain King through eternity in the future. His reign had no beginning and will never cease. In Luke 1:33 when the angel was telling Mary she would conceive a son he said “and of his kingdom there shall be no end.” Those who accept Jesus as their Saviour and Lord will have the honour of spending eternity dwelling under His eternal reign.
