When you go golfing the cost to play a round is generally called 'green fees’. This is totally misleading because most of the game is played on the fairways. Even then you are not just paying to use the greens and the fairways. In the fee is also included the use of bunkers, rough, streams and lakes. Sometimes I even use the out of bounds. I cannot simply pick and choose the parts of the course I like. The fees include the whole course and I generally make sure I us it all.
The same is true when it comes to reading and believing the Bible. I cannot just pick and choose the parts with which I agree. I have to consider the entire book. If I hit a ball into the rough, it will cause me problems, but I must play it from there. If a Bible verse causes me problems, I can’t just ignore it. I have to believe it and apply it to my life.
2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” Notice the first two words, ‘all scripture’.
