Hearken

In John 2 we are told the account of Jesus at the wedding in Cana when He turned the water into wine.  The host had run out of wine and Mary informed Jesus of the situation.  His reply was not the one for which she had hoped.  He said His time had not yet come.  She then turned to the servants and gave some excellent advice that is still applicable today.  In the last part of verse 5 she instructs the servants “Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.”  (KJV)

How much more insightful yet simple could an instruction be.  She told them to listen to Jesus and then do whatever He says to do.  This is not earth shattering but it is something we seem to often neglect to do.

Whenever a situation arises in which we need guidance, all we need do is turn to God and pray for instruction.  Whatever He answers is what we need to do.  Through Solomon, in Proverbs 1:33 God tells us, “But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.”  The word hearkenth means to hear intelligently with obedience.  If we did that we could either solve or avoid many of our daily problems.
