Muscle Memory

Muscle Memory

I’ve noticed that when I get in my car to start it, I don’t even have to look where to put my key.  I just reach down and my hand seems to know where the key belongs.  I have done it so many times, my muscles remember how to act to insert the key.  The same principle is used by golfers to perfect their swings.  They do something over and over until the muscles remember how to perform the task.

It would seem to me that we can use this principle in other areas of our lives.  If we make a conscious effort to pray as soon as we get up every day, there will come a time when we will not have to think about it.  If we make an effort to pray before each meal, we will eventually pray without thinking about it.

Romans 8:5 says, “For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.” (KJV)  If we consciously and continually mind or chase after things of the Spirit, we will because of ‘spiritual memory’ continue to chase after the Spirit even it we are not consciously thinking about it.
