Olympics

I know the Olympics are a big thing and I understand why people want to compete and win.  There is the joy of winning, the endorsement contracts and money that may come and also the fame and notoriety that comes from winning a gold medal.  All of these however, are fleeting.  I think you would be hard pressed to find many people who could even name one person that won a gold medal in the last winter Olympics.  For myself, I cannot even name one person that competed four years ago.  I can’t even remember where they were held.

Matthew 6:19-20 tells us, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:” (KJV)  Anything we store up here on earth will disappear and all accolades will be forgotten.  The only things that matter are the things I do for God that will help build His kingdom.  My focus must be on Him and Him alone.
