Practice

Practice

I think we have all heard, at one time in our lives, ‘practice makes perfect’.  While we rarely reach perfection I think we can all agree that practice definitely makes us better.  If we want to progress in our ability to play a musical instrument, there are scales that must be played.  If we want to be a better runner, there are endless miles to be run.  If you want your child to be a better reader, the best way to do it to have them read books.  Practice is the only way to improve our abilities.

We rarely feel embarrassed by our lack of ability when we start something.  We realize we must keep at it if we want to become adept at it.  Why should we expect our prayer life to be any different?  Many people feel awkward praying because they feel they are not very good at it.  If that’s you, practice!  The more you pray, the better and the more relaxed you will become.  That is one reason we are told in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 to ‘Pray without ceasing.” (KJV)
