Throwing Stones

Throwing Stones

It seems every time I see a child either by the river or by the beach, there is a good chance they are engrossed in one activity, throwing stones into the water.  I even find myself caught up in this activity.  There is something strangely satisfying about throwing stones and watching the splash and then seeing the ripples move out in ever growing circles.

We have to remember that picture every time we want to say something.  Our words may make a small splash, but the effects of those words move out in every enlarging circles.  Good words will affect things that we cannot see, as will bad words.  We need to ensure that our words cause encouraging ripples.

Psalms 19:14 tells us, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”  We must ensure that every word we speak be acceptable to God.  If we stick to this rule, then any splashes or ripples that our words make will have a positive effect on those around us for the purposes of God.
