The first part of Psalms 5:11 says, “But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them.”  The Hebrew word here for trust means ‘to flee to for protection’.  That is what God wants us to do and it is also what we need to do.  Any time we have something in our lives that causes us fear or anxiety we need to trust Him, to run to Him for protection.  If we do, we are told that He will defend us.  But that is not all.

By trusting Him, we get more than just His protection.  In the beginning of the verse we are told we will rejoice, our spirits will brighten and we will become cheerful.  Once we have that joyful spirit we are told we need to shout for joy.  The Hebrew here implies a shout of triumph.

Trusting in God is not a passive, quiet action.  It involves our entire being.  It is not just running to Him for protection, it is receiving the joy that comes with that protection and then shouting it so others can see what He has done for us.
