Because of the traditions surrounding Valentine’s Day, many people become engaged or do special things for a loved one on that day. If Cupid had his way, an arrow would fall into the heart of a person and they would be hopelessly in love with another for the rest of their lives. As wonderfully romantic as that sounds, people sometimes stop loving others or have quarrels with the ones they love.
We need to realize that love is not something we “fall” into, but a choice. If we understand it is a choice then we can get through the more difficult times because we know we will not fall out of love if we choose to love the person no matter what happens.
That is how it is with God. He chose to love us and nothing can change that choice. Romans 8:39 reminds us, “Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (KJV) No matter what we do, God will continue to love us. What He wants desperately is for us to return that love to Him.
