Why Christmas?

Why Christmas?

Like most people, there are many things about Christmas that I like; the snow, family, decorations, lights, presents and friendship.  As a society we like Christmas, but have you ever wondered why we have Christmas.  We know it is the time we celebrate the birth of Jesus, but why did God send Jesus to be born, knowing that eventually He would be hung a cross?

Imagine the emotions He must have felt.  He allowed Jesus to be born of a woman, born fully as a human, knowing that He would die a brutal death.  Why would He do such a thing?

As humans we are all guilty under His law, guilty of sin.  No matter how good we could live our lives, He knew that each one of us would fail perfection, would transgress His law somewhere, sometime.  The penalty of that transgression was death.  Each one of us was sentenced to eternal death because of our transgressions.

God knew the only way we could escape that death was for a sinless sacrifice to be made in our place.  But where could a sinless sacrifice be found on this earth?  It couldn’t.

God sent Jesus, His son, to be that perfect sacrifice.  He was born so that He could die on the cross and present to us the ultimate gift, eternal life.
