I vaguely remember teaching my children to ride bicycles.  I know they didn’t just jump on and start riding.  I ran holding the bike for a while, then they went on their own, wobbling and falling.  It was only after much practice that they actually looked comfortable and confident riding their bikes.  That is what I expected.

It is also what God expects from us.  In our walk with Him He doesn’t expect us to have everything down pat right away.  He understands that there are times when we will wobble and time we will fall, but as with riding a bike, the more we practice the better we get.  When we fall we need to get back up and keep trying.  God does not expect perfection, He expects us to be wobbly and He accepts us that way.  With His help however, we know that we can attain all that He wants of us.  Philippians 1:6 in The Message says “There has never been the slightest doubt in my mind that the God who started this great work in you would keep at it and bring it to a flourishing finish on the very day Christ Jesus appears."
