In the past few days, a video of President Biden has been circling in social media. The video supposedly shows the president announcing a fourth stimulus check will be sent out. However, the video turned out to be fake, and here is what you need to know about it.
The fourth stimulus check “announcement”
In March 2021, a third and currently final third stimulus check was sent to eligible taxpayers in the USA.
Since then, there have been hopes and rumors regarding a fourth check, which the government announced will is not in the works.
However, several days ago, a video of President Biden surfaced on Facebook, supposedly declaring the fourth check. In the video, the president audibly says Some people in the country will start seeing those direct deposits in their bank accounts this weekend, and payments to eligible Americans will continue throughout the course of the next several weeks.”
Furthermore, there is a screenshot in the video where the president appears to be signing an “executive order” for the check.
Is the video real?
To many people’s disappointment, the video of President Biden’s announcement is fake. Currently, the federal government will not send a fourth stimulus check.
The fake video appeared on a Facebook page titled “Care First Homes”, and it has been viewed more than 45,000 times, despite the group having only 830 followers.
In the post, it was said that “We came across this on the news last night and were so happy.
My friend also called me this morning and told me about the great news for Medicare holders in the US. All I did was entered my zip on the website and confirmed my medicare details and now we are getting back $2880. Just check zip on the website!”.
It is important to note that the video did not come from any government source or from a newscast.
It is the result of editing footage from a speech given by President Biden at COP26in November 2021.
Re-examining the footage shows that the audio is out of sync and that it has been digitally edited with a voice similar to that of the president.
Also, the video shows White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki and the comment she made on March 2021 (the third round of checks): This is, of course, just the first wave but…some people in the country will start seeing those direct deposits in their bank accounts this weekend.
And payments to eligible Americans will continue throughout the course of the next several weeks,”
The silver lining
There is currently no federal plan for a fourth stimulus check to be sent out. However, there are states who have planned and put into motion local financial aid programs: California, Maine, and Arizona. It is important to keep posted on the local news to discover if such plans exist in your state.
