Greece is one of the best locations in the world to do so because you have a lot of popular destinations full of things to see and do. The only disadvantage can be the roads that can be narrow at some points.
Renting a Vehicle
If you are far away from Greece and it's not very beneficial to travel in your own car, the best and the only way to do it is to rent one at the airport. There are a lot of companies and car models that you can get for a good price. Another great tip is to have it booked in advance because you might not have a lot of choices when you arrive.
Proper documentation is necessary so bring your driving license for Greece or IDP. Do a bit of research when renting a vehicle because there are usually a lot of options when you book online. You might be able to find the same car you want for a lower price.
Holiday Visit
You should plan your trip based on the number of days you are visiting. If you are going on a holiday for up to 3 days, there are a few great options including Athens, Thessaloniki, Rhodes, Santorini. Choose one city or one island but, if you never visited Greece, you should start with one of the islands.
Athens may be the capital with a lot of popular locations like Acropolis, Ancient Agora, Zappeion Park, and many more but it depends on what you are looking to get out of the trip. If you want to fill up your batteries for a few days, Santorini might be a better choice.
10 Day Trip
If you have a lot of time on your hands, you can visit most of the popular locations by your car. The most recommended destinations are Peloponnese, Athens, Thessaloniki, The Meteora, and Delphi. You will need a day to explore Delphi and The Meteora.
Delphi is well known for its beauty and you should check out the Theatre and the temple of Apollo. The Meteora is famous for its huge rocks and monasteries built on them. Visiting these locations is very cheap and you can see most of these monasteries in one day.
You can spend 3 days in Peleponnese starting from Mycenae through the Corinth Canal. Moving on, you can go through Epidaurus and Nafplio which is the road trip most people take when visiting Peleponnese.
When Is The Best Time To Road Trip?
When you will travel will also depend on the locations you plan to visit so if you are going to central Greece, you should go in spring. The weather is the best at this time of the year which makes it more perfect for long rides. Winter is never the best option because it can snow a lot and it can be quite cold.
