Fuck being comfortable. That’s what I finally realized at the tender age of 28. I always lived my life based on what was comfortable. I went to school every day to one day receive that high school diploma. Got that high school diploma to then go to college. Got that college degree to then move onto a career. Blah, blah, blah. Boring!
“In order to be truly happy, you need to go explore the world. Meet new people. Try new things. Don’t be afraid to fail. Never be afraid of the unknown. Don’t stay in one place. Do as much as you can while you are young and able.” This is what I told myself, in the beginning of this year, and I have never looked back.
With that, I quit my job without having another one lined up and spontaneously booked a trip to the West Coast (anyone that has/had the extreme pleasure of knowing me, knows that this is way out of my comfort zone). I can honestly say, though, that this was the best decision I have ever made. While traveling alone I met some awesome people, learned more about myself in two weeks than I have in the past 28 years and ate the most fabulous food.
I am not saying or advising that everyone should randomly quit their job and start a free-for-all with their lives. What I am saying is, if you are unhappy with your current situation it’s time to make a change and start adding some excitement. Life is too short after all.
“The three C’s of life: Choices, Chances and Changes. You must make a Choice to take a Chance or your life will never Change.” –Zig Zaglar
Final thoughts: Step out of your damn comfort zone! I know, I know easier said than done but you will thank yourself later. I promise.
Oh, and I love how I totally made myself seem like a life coach with this post. Please just roll with it.
Tell me about a time when you stepped out of your comfort zone. How did it make you feel?
