Have you ever seen someone like Tony Robbins or Joel Osteen on stage where they inspire the audience to dream big and take action in life and thought to yourself, “I want to do that”? Many people have steered away from being a professional public speaker because they  are afraid of failing and looking ridiculous on stage. The thought of speaking from your heart and then not being received by the audience can feel so crushing that one would never even dream of doing it.

But did you know that even some of the most famous motivational speakers in the world all started off poorly? It’s true. None of the people you see up on stage just started off being great as an orator. Like anything in life, it took a great deal of courage, practice, and dedication until they mastered their craft and began making a good living from it.

The truth is, being a professional speaker can be a very lucrative career if you know how to do it right and get over your fear. The fact is, there are many benefits that come with being a motivational speaker which include traveling, meeting a variety of new people, and earning a nice income.

What is even more important is that with this job, you get a chance to spread the word, give your message to other people and maybe inspire and encourage other people along the way. Great motivational speakers really make a difference and if you want to do it, too, it is important for you to know how to start.

What Is Your Message?

The first thing that you will have to do before you even try to get and paid jobs is to think about what your message is and how you want to present it. Think carefully about the things that you want to say and how you are going to say them.

At the same time, you should also learn something about how speeches are given and by that we mean, learning to use pauses correctly, intonation and learning to speak clearly so that everyone can understand you. Only after you master these skills can you start looking for jobs.

Getting Started As A Speaker

One of the ways to start out as a motivational speaker is to turn to all kinds of businesses, companies and organizations and to offer them your services. Of course, carefully choose your potential clients or employers, more precisely, because not everyone needs to hear the same message. In other words, the message that you have and want to talk about may not be appropriate for all companies and organizations. Choose the ones that are more likely to hire you. Convince them that you can do the job and even if they are not interested at that moment, tell them that you are available and that they keep you in mind because you would like to work with them.

Speakers Bureaus

Another thing that you can do is to turn to a professional speakers bureau. One of the disadvantages of doing this is that they will take a percentage of what you make for a job that they find for you, but the good thing, though, is that there are lots of opportunities that they will provide you with and they will be of great help when it comes to advertising you.

It is also quite important to point out that the beginning will be difficult and that you should consider giving some speeches for free because this is the easiest way to establish yourself and build a name for yourself. If you are good, you won’t have to work for free for a long time, there is no doubt about it. Once people see how good you are, they will be more than willing to pay you good money to do it all over again. And once you start making progress and keep getting more and more jobs, you can even consider writing a book or something similar that will help you increase your income even more and build and even more successful career that will last for a long time.
